Highlights
of Ongoing Projects
Population
Mapping of Latin America and the Carribbean
(with UNEP and Columbia University)
Our
team has developed a population distribution database for over 18,000
administrative areas, with estimates for 1950 to 2050. We use models that
estimate the population between census dates and for areas within
administrative units.

Food
Security and Poverty Mapping
We
worked with other CGIAR centers and national partners to analyze the
geographic dimensions of poverty and food security in selected countries.
This work is being used in several different projects to help CIAT and
partners target research and development to the poor and vulnerable.

Spatial Data Infrastructure
We have
been applying best practices in spatial data documentation and adherence
to international metadata and data dissemination standards. Our metadata
complies with the FGDC and ISO standards. Our spatial data search efforts
include a Geonetwork site and Z39.50
clearinghouse standards for providing access to our catalogue.
