Title: Sri Lanka - Poverty at District Level
Abstract:
This data set includes information collected for the Sri Lanka poverty mapping project conducted by the International Water Management Institute. The project combined synthetic area small area estimation with principal components to estimate poverty at Divisional Secretariat level in Sri Lanka. The data includes demography, information on small holding agriculture details including assets, agriculture employment, agriculture productivity, agriculture income including Samurdhi welfare financial assistance, and proximity to infrastructural facilities.

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

    The poverty levels of DS divisions were estimated using small area estimation method. For details of the methodology and accuracy of estimates refer IWMI Research Report 96 at iwmi@cgiar.org. The accuracy of the secondary data was verified to the extent possible with the official records and expert opinions.

    All data included in the dataset are secondary data, which are available in different government departments in Sri Lanka.
