What does this data set describe?

Title: Kenya - Kajiado - Poor People Density
Abstract:
The sublocation level poverty analysis in Kajiado district has been using the percentage of people below the poverty line per sublocation as a dependent variable so far. During a brainstorming session, however, it has been suggested that the actual number of poor people or poor people densities might be a useful lefthand-side variable as well.

The data set also includes the percentage of area within one hour walking distance of a permanent natural water source (boreholes, tanks, wells, spring, pans, dams, rain catchment and permanent rivers)

The coverage shows the active community groups in Kajiado district. They include Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs). The figure indicated show the total number of active community groups (CBOs) and (NGOs) operational within a sublocation.

This shapefile includes as well the distance from the shopping center in each sublocation to the nearest major towns by road, in kms.

Another indicator is the density of livestock expressed in TLU/km2 (total livestock units per km2)- from the original 5x5km dataset, an average livestock density for each sublocation was calculated. A lot of livestock might give a lot of pressure on the environment OR maybe it will be an indication of where there are a lot of resources so that livestock concentrates in these areas.

Supplemental_Information:
Since the poverty data (calculated by the CBS/World bank/ILRI initiative) describe RURAL poverty, calculating the number of poor people or poor-people-densities in areas that have both rural and urban populations is tricky. So, two things were done to account for rural/urban areas in the district: subtracting urban populations and areas from sub locations that host a township in Kajiado district (12 in total) and excluding sub locations for which no poverty data were available in the first place
