Title:
Honduras - Unsatisfied Basic Needs (UBN) 1988, Human Development Index (HDI) and UBN 2001
Abstract:
This data set combines information on unsatisfied basic needs (1988 and 2001) and the human development index (2001) for Honduras.

The social information about unsatisfied basic needs (UBN) compiled in this shapefile was taken from the work of Andres Schuschny and Gilberto Gallopín called "The spatial distribution of poverty in relation whit the environmental systems in Latin America." The data to generate this map came from the population and housing census of 1988. Additional information about unsatisfied basic needs (UBN) compiled was taken from the XVI Population and V Housing Census of Honduras (2001 Census), this document was published by the National Statistics Institute (INE - Instituto Nacional de Estadística).

The information about the Health Development Index (HDI) compiled in this shapefile was taken from the National Report on Human Development in Honduras. This document was developed by different organizations like the National Institute of Statistics of Honduras (Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas - INE), and United Nations Development Program (Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo - PNUD) based on the results of the population and housing census of 2001

The spatial information compiled in this shapefile was taken from administrative units' maps that were digitized country by country, corrected and adjusted with the digital information of the D.C.W. (Digital Chart of the World). This work was carried out by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).

The data are represented in Latitude-Longitude geographical coordinates. The information is presented in two administrative levels that are: first level corresponds Departments (Departamentos) according to the denomination of this level in this country, and the second level corresponds to Municipalities (Municipios).
