Description:
Abstract:
Number of consecutive dry months, Ecuador, South America.

PROCESSED CLIMATE DATA

The data distributed here are in ARC GRID format, projected to Universal Transverse Mercator with Provisional South American 1956 datum, zone 17S.

This dataset is derived from interpolated mean monthly precipitation data and we consider a dry month to be < 60mm precipitation. These precipitation datasets can be downloaded from the WORLDCLIM website: <http://biogeo.berkeley.edu/worldclim/worldclim.htm>

Purpose:
The purpose of this dataset is to provide an input into the analysis of spatial variability of limitations on crop growth and their effect on levels of food consumption in Ecuador.
Supplemental_Information:
The CIAT Land Use project have imported the WORLDCLIM data, and performed some simple processing to derive the maximum number of consecutive months with less than 60mm precipitation. We use this figure as a proxy for water availablity stress on crop growth. Calculations were performed using an Avenue script in ESRI ArcView GIS software. Questions regarding this script should be directed to Andy Farrow.
