ACCESSIBILITY ANALYST MODEL DATA

The data distributed here are in ARC GRID format, projected to Universal Transverse Mercator with Provisional South American 1956 datum, zone 17S.

This dataset is the result of a cost-distance model that takes into account road quality (and implicitly transport type), slope, land use and barriers to create a friction surface. Purpose:

The purpose of this dataset is to provide an input into the analysis of spatial variability of access to markets and services and their effect on levels of food consumption in Ecuador.

The CIAT Land Use project has developed the Accessibility Analyst tool for calculating time to specific locations, the tool is available as an ESRI ArcView GIS extension. Specifically this dataset incorporates 6 spatial data inputs Classified Road Network :Large/Navigable Rivers, Slope , Local Markets, Urban Areas, Ecuador Country, Boundary. The process of combining these sources is explained in the Accessibility Analyst Manual The parameters used are as follows: (Classified Road Network (time in seconds per 100m), Alianza Jatun Sacha - CDC, 2003. Roads, Vias de primer orden - First order paved roads - 6, Vias de segundo orden - Second order roads - 8 Vias de tercer orden - Third order roads - 10, Caminos de verano y senderos (Jeep) - Summer-only routes and tracks - 15, Linea Ferrea - Railway (Railroad) - 75 (we assume railway inoperative and railtrack used as a walking path only). Large/Navigable Rivers - 15 seconds per 100m, Alianza Jatun Sacha - CDC, 2003. Rivers, Urban Areas - 0 seconds per 100m, Alianza Jatun Sacha - CDC, 2003.
