The
objective of this workshop was:
First, it is intended to allow to summarize and review the
main achievements of our research project: Methodologies for
Integrating Data Across Geographic Scales in a Data-rich Environment:
Examples from Honduras. To do this, we have designed the workshop
around a topic central to Ecoregional research: Scale effects
in decision making for Ecoregional development, where an international
panel of experts from diverse disciplines will introduce and
link various perspectives of the subject. All participants
have one thing in common: they have a systems approach and
they deal simultaneously with a range of scales. We believe
that the achievements of the Project, which are far from being
exhaustive, will be better understood in a broader context
that highlights the complexity of the Ecoregional research.
The participants will act as speakers as well as reviewers
of the Ecoregional process. It will be possible, then, to
evaluate properly the contribution of the Project to the understanding
of the ecoregional development processes.
Second,
the individual contributions as well as the result of the
roundtable discussions will be assembled into a book that
we hope will represent the state-of-the-art on the subject.
We are confident to be able to produce a primer that a major
publisher would be interested in producing. The workshop is
an opportunity for the various authors to fully interact and
contribute to a coherent and well-polished product.
Third,
we expect that the workshop will contribute to establish bases
for collaborations in Ecoregional research, and to the design
of future Ecoregional research funding opportunities.
