This data set is from the publication, " Pobreza y desigualdad a nivel de areas menores de Panama." December 2005, published by the InterAmerican Development Bank. From the Preface:
En los últimos años, las políticas gubernamentales de la mayoría de los países de la Región de Latinoamérica y el Caribe se han ido articulando en función al objetivo de
reducir los niveles de pobreza y la desigualdad. Uno de los factores que inciden a favor de la eficiencia en la focalización de estas políticas es la posibilidad de identificar a la población entre pobres y no pobres. En Panamá, recientemente se ha construido un mapa de pobreza basado en un Índice de Satisfacción de Necesidades Básicas (SNB), lo cual ha permitido jerarquizar las diferentes divisiones geográficas del país en función a la proporción de quienes no llegan a tener un nivel mínimo de atisfacción de algunas de estas necesidades. Este mapa, sin embargo, carece de una dimensión esencial de la pobreza, como es la dimensión económica. Este estudio pretende cubrir este vacío con la estimación de diferentes indicadores de pobreza y desigualdad a nivel de distritos y corregimientos de Panamá basados en la medida de consumo per cápita.
The information compiled in this shape is the result of geographical information taken from administrative units' maps that were digitized country by country, corrected and adjusted with the digital information of the D.C.W. (Digital Chart of the World).
The data are represented in Latitude-Longitude geographical coordinates. The information is presented in two administrative levels that are: first level corresponds Departments (Departamentos) according to the denomination of this level in this country, and the second level corresponds to Municipalities (Municipios). The Map source was obtained for the digitization of this information (CIAT) but in some cases the information is not very recent and the administrative division has changed a lot. |
