Abstract:
The Small Area Estimates of Poverty and Inequality dataset consists of spatially referenced consumption-based measures of poverty and inequality for subnational administrative areas of various countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America. These measures are derived, on a country-level basis, from a combination of census and survey data using small area estimation techniques developed for poverty mapping. The collection of data sets have been compiled, integrated and standardized from the original data providers into a unified, spatially referenced and globally consistent dataset. The data products include shapefiles (vector data), tabular datasets (in comma seperated values format) and centroids (comma seperated values file with latitude and longitude of a geographic unit and associated poverty estimates). Additionally, a data catalog (in Excel format) contains detailed information and documentation on each data set in the collection. The collection is produced by the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) in collaboration with a number of external data providers. |

To provide highly resolved subnational estimates of poverty and inequality for use by a wide user community for interdisciplinary studies of poverty, inequality and the environment.
This is the first version (Version 1.0) of the Small Area Estimates data set. This is a tabular data format that can be used in spreadsheet, database and GIS applications. POVERTY LINE The following is a summary of the poverty line(s) used by data providers in the construction of poverty estimates: Cambodia Currency: Riel Value: The values are: 3 poverty lines delineated by the city capital, rural and urban area of residence. For the rural areas, the poverty line is 1036 per capita per day, whereas for the urban areas excluding the capital city the poverty line is 1214 per capita per day. In the capital city, the poverty line is 1629 per capita per day (From The Ministry of Planning, Royal Government of Cambodia and the U.N. World Food Programme. (2002).
